Additionally, please keep in mind that this video merely intends to tell the story of the protest, not to provide commentary on the methods employed by the protesters. We want this video to show what it is like to be a student protester – how it looks, sounds, and feels to be in the middle of the crowd.

The coverage of the events of March 4th were intended to be representative of the students that marched and protested throughout the day. AggieTV participated alongside students at this rally with our cameras, to help tell our story --- the student's story.

March 4th 2010 has been the day set for statewide action to defend public education since November of 2009. Although many educational institutes marched to the capitol to make their stories heard, the students and faculty of UC Davis decided to rally a little closer to home. Starting from 11:30AM protesters marched on campus, on streets, and up to the entrance of the Interstate 80. Intersections were occupied and confrontation with law enforcement officers occurred on a number of occasions throughout the day. After a stand off with the police, one arrest was made. However, negotiations were made and the student was released on the agreement that protesters would clear the area and return to campus.

[Correction from the UC Davis News Service]

The UC Davis News Service requests that we correct three statements made in this video:

1. No Tasers went off. A single Taser was pulled; it malfunctioned and did not fire. The CHP officer pulled it to stop a student who held up a bike as a shield, and butted him with it.

2. The student who was arrested was not tased. “Brutally” is over the top and plain wrong.

3. Bean bag guns were not deployed.

"UC Davis is relieved that no students, motorists or police officers were injured in yesterday’s protest, and is grateful to law enforcement officers from neighboring jurisdictions for their assistance in protecting students and the public from harm."
